Fri 06.07.07 - I am not really sure what is happening to me. Yesterday I was brought in to the vets to be put to sleep. I don't know what I have done or why they don't want me. I hear the vets say there is nothing wrong with me, but my owner says I growl and hiss all the time. I am kept indoors all the time and not allowed out in to the garden. I am left at the vets for the night and a nice lady gives me something to eat and tells me that 'Auntie Wizz' will come and get me in the morning. It's a very long night. In the morning they tell me Auntie Wizz has arrived and I am going home. When I meet her she tells me everything is going to be ok and she will look after me. I am vaccinated which is ok, but I don't like the Program flea injection and I try to escape, but Auntie Wizz makes sure I am safe. When we get 'home' I am put in a pen and Auntie Wizz has a little chat with me. I am very scared and I can't stop shaking. I just want everyone to go away. I growl, kiss and spit to make them go away. During the night I explore a little, eat my tea, go the toilet and then sleep. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Sat 07.07.07 - I don't understand what is going on - I don't like it when Auntie Wizz comes in the pen - she is too close for my liking - I growl, hiss, spit and lash out at her. This afternoon I am sat on my outside top shelf. I have a bird feeder right outside my door which I like to watch. I don't like it when Auntie Wizz enters the pen. I cowar and shake in the corner. She sits with me for a little while and talks to me. I don't mind her talking to me - she has her back to me, so I have a little wash - I have no idea what she is rambling on about! She tries to feed me by hand but I am not interested and hiss and spit at her. She tries to show me a toy mouse but I hiss at that too! She says she will leave the toys out for me and I can play with them if I want. I don't want - what I want is to be on my own!
Sun 08.07.07 - This morning I am a little more relaxed. The other cats are coming to look at me - a little grey face at the door, then a brown tabby, two torties. I don't know what to make of any of them! Today I have a present from Auntie Wizz - a cat nip pillow. I love it and roll around on my back licking and chewing the pillow. It is a very pleasurable experience. This afternoon Auntie Wizz tries to touch me with a towel. I lash out hissing and spitting but the towel does not move and it does not hurt me so I calm down. It actually feels quite nice and I let her give me a gentle masage around my head and ears.
Mon 09.07.07 - Beginning to get the hang of the routine here. Mozzy and Treacle are fed before me. I can see through in to their pen and I sit and watch Auntie Wizz in anticipation of my breakfast. This morning I do not growl or hiss at her because I know what is coming. I just give a little growl when she is in 'my space' but then she moves away so I settle. This afternoon I am even better and I have a long massage with the towel. So long in fact that I fall asleep while Auntie Wizz is massaging me.
Tue 10.07.07 - More of a grumble today rather than a growl - just to remind Auntie Wizz that I'm not 100% comfortable with her being in such close proximity! In the evening I even take some dry biscuits from her hand. She says I am very gentle. The big fluffy brown cat was around and I grumbled at him - this is my time with Auntie Wizz so go away!
Wed 11.07.07 - Today I feel more confident. No growling when Auntie Wizz enters the pen - nothing - not even when she is moving about cleaning up after me! Just a little grumble when she was in my space again. Took dry food from her again, which seems to please her. Today I am sat upright as I take the food. Later I sit at her feet and we both look out of the pen at Simon who has come to see me. I don't growl at him as I know he lives here too. Auntie Wizz attempts to stroke me with her hand rather than the towel, but I don't like it and I hiss at her. We have a better session in the evening as she fools me, by starting with the towel and then using her hand. We have a nice evening session as I discover the toys are not scarey and Auntie Wizz and me play with a feather - but Auntie needs to watch her fingers - I am very quick! Then she rolls the ball for me and it goes under the box so I have to try and find it. We have a nice time. Later on I just rub past her hand as I know she needs reassurance that she is doing the right thing by me.
Thur 12.07.07 - This morning I am out and about and ready for my breakfast. Auntie Wizz nearly has to push pass me to get in the pen! I tell her that I think I might like to go out in the garden, but she says it is too soon and that we have some work to do yet. I hover around while she tidies up and then I go in to the top box ready for my food. Today I let her have a little stroke of my head, and tickle behind my ears. I quite like that! Just one or two little grumbles this morning as I am beginning to realise that I can trust her and she only ever brings me nice things. Tonight I thought it was time to show my full appreciation. When Auntie Wizz came in I rubbed my head on her head as she bent down, then I let her stroke me and head butted her hand and purred away. She seemed very pleased with me and I with her!
Fri 13.07.07 - As soon I saw Auntie Wizz this morning I stood up on my stool and rub the door in an effort to get near to her. She opens the door with my breakfast and I greet her with a head rub and let her stroke me. Today I am quite excited that I seem to have turned a corner. Auntie Wizz says it is nice to see me much happier. I even let out a little greeting to Treacle - but she just hisses at me - can you believe that - how rude! Princess Chloe comes to see me. She is a bit erratic but I'm not scared and we do nose to nose through the wire. Tonight I am very loving when Auntie Wizz came in with my supper. I even jumped on her back as she was cleaning my tray and I rubbed my face on her face. Just one little grumble and even I'm not sure why I did it!
Sat 14.07.07 - Today there is no spitting, no growling, no hissing - just lots of love, head rubbing and me jumping about in excitement. Today I have a new toy. It is a mobile with lots of interesting things hanging from it. As you know I have a bird feeder just outside and there is a very cheeky squirrel that comes right up close! Auntie Wizz puts some nuts out for him as the bird feeder she has is squirrel proof!
Sun 15.07.07 - I wonder what Auntie Wizz will bring me today. She says she has something special - a puzzle of some sort - but I will have to wait until this afternoon when she has made it! I rub her face with my face as a sign of appreciation! Now I just have to wait! In the afternoon Auntie Wizz brings me a pyramid made from kitchen roll holders, then in each one she places a few biscuits and I have to scoop them out with my paws! What a great game!
Mon 16.07.07 - Today I have had my first brush - and very nice it is too. Then I get under my chin tickled which is lovely and I do big purrs in appreciation. I give Auntie Wizz lots of head butts in the face today. She has put some more biscuits in my pyramid so I can play with that later. Sammy the Squirrel has his own bowl of food now too so I can keep an eye on him! I really would like to go out in to the garden and try to nudge past Auntie Wizz but she's not having it - not yet anyway but I think I can work on her!
Tue 17.07.07 - Some strange people were around today. They came to see Mozzy and Treacle and could see me peeping around the corner looking at them. They wanted to come and meet me but I was a bit apprehensive. I had a little sniff and then Auntie Wizz started talking to me which put me at ease a bit, but I still went back in to my box to be on the safe side!
Wed 18.07.07 - Now I know that you lot think egg boxes are for eggs! Well think again - they are actually for cat treats! They get hidden at the bottom of the egg box, then various toys are placed on top and then I have to fish the toys out to get to the treats. Not difficult you might think - but when the box keeps moving, and the toys are plastic balls with nothing to get your claws hooked in to - it's not easy! But then I like a challenge!
Thur 19.07.07 - Don't you just love feathers! Especially big peacock ones! Something new again today - sat on Auntie Wizz's lap for a little bit and watched the birds and bee's together!
Fri 20.07.07 - Apparently we are all getting a lovely treat today! I can't wait! Oh! It's tuna. Now call me slightly odd but I actually don't like tuna! Auntie Wizz says she will have something special for me tomorrow.
Sat 21.07.07 - Can't wait to see what I've got today! Chicken! Yes! that's more like it. If I want the chicken I have to sit on Auntie's lap and take it nicely from her hand. I can manage that!
Sun 22.07.07 - Seems to be a lot going on today. Apparently I am to have a new neighbour over the next few days. All I am worried about is that my kitchen roll triangle and egg box puzzles are full of biscuits!
Mon 23.07.07 - More visitors today - in fact the same ones that came the other day, but today I was a lot more sociable and rubbed the wire door in a greeting to the nice lady and her daughter.
Tues 24.07.07 - Is it me or is this place full of dark tortoishell cats! They are everywhere! I did have an old bad tempered one who seems to have taken up residence next to me, but I soon showed her the cat flap! Then madam Treacle who seems to think she can come and sit on a neighbouring shelf and swear at me! Milly - who is a long haired one, but I think she comes to gloat that she's in the garden and I'm not - and now another one has moved in to the pen the otherside of me!! What is going on??
Wed 25.07.07 - OK I've sussed everything out. Auntie Wizz says that the newest arrival is a lodger and is not staying! I can cope with that!
Thur 26.07.07 - Apparently next week I have to go to the vets, so we are currently having basket training exercises where Auntie Wizz picks me up and then puts me straight back down again. Apparently I will see the basket soon and she will lift me in the basket but then let me straight back out again. This exercise is supposed to make me easier to get in to the cat carrier. We'll see about that one!
Fri 27.07.07 - Yeah! Here comes breakfast! Where's my dish? Auntie Wizz you've not left me a dish of food!!! What's this little pink ball thing....... mmm smells of biscuits. I'll just give it a tap with my paw see if it does anything - ooohhhh biscuit yummy! and another, and another .........
Sat 28.07.07 - Everyone is off fund raising today for the rescue, so I just get a quick rub and a kiss on the nose...... and she's off. Guess I have to amuse myself until she gets back.
Sun 29.07.07 - I just love Sundays! Sundays is treat day - everyone gets tuna - yuk! but I get fresh warm chicken - yummy, yummy! Today I have been rolling about in my pen on my back and generally having a good time - I didn't realise Auntie Wizz was watching, so when I did I quickly jumped up and dusted myself down and started grooming - I think I might have got away with it!
Sun 05.08.07 - Well the basket training went well all week. I could be found sleeping in the basket some days, but every day I would find a few treats in there. Then on Friday the treats were put in there as usual but then the basket was closed. I was very good, no crying or anything on the way to the vets and when I got there I was very good and just had my second vaccination. No hissing, no spitting, no growling. Auntie Wizz was so pleased with me that I am allowed to have the cat nip plant in my pen for a few days all to myself. I have been here for four weeks now and I have settled very well in to the routine. Auntie Wizz comes and kisses me on the nose in the morning and I kiss her too. Then I have my bowl of wet food, but the best bit is to see what she is going to do with the dry food. Its always a game and I have to find them. Today I have a new bed which I've taken to straight away! Its brilliant!
Sun 12.08.07 - I have now been here for 5 weeks. Auntie Wizz says that I am very nearly up to the magic number 6. Apparently any one who has been here 6 weeks is then allowed out in the garden during the day. I have asked if I can go now, but Auntie is very strict with the 6 week protocol so I must wait another week or so, especially as I have never been out before. She says it must be on a day when she is around so she can keep an eye on me. We are going to have a chat next weekend and then we will set a date! I am so excited!
Sun 19.08.07 - Yeaah!! I will be allowed outside for the first time on Thursday - weather permitting! Apparently Mozzy and Treacle are going to their new home on Wednesday night, so there will be a little less competition for the garden and I can have a lovely wander around without Treacle sticking her little nose in to my business! I just can't wait - I am so excited I keep hopping around my pen! Also the other news is that I will get the big pen from now onwards - so it's all lots of exciting changes for me this week! Will let you know how I get on!
Thur 23.08.07 - Oh Wow!!! How cool is this going outside thing! I didn't even wait to have my breakfast as soon as that door was open first thing Thursday morning I was off! I stuck pretty close to home to start off with and kept checking in with Auntie Wizz to make sure everything was okay. I found a bumble bee, but Auntie said that was not a good thing to have and as it was sleepy Auntie killed it - which she doesn't like doing but it might have stung me. Then she hid it under a stone so I wouldn't get it - but of course she had forgetten that for the last 6 weeks she has been hiding my food to make me work for it, so I quickly out smarted her, moved the stone and ate the bumble bee! Then I found some nice leaves and started chewing on those - apparently that's a no-no too - grass yes, but leaves no! So Auntie left me to it after a short lecture on what is acceptable and what isn't. I vanished for a while but when Auntie shouted me at tea time there I was! I have a new luxury pen now too - it's just wonderful - but to be honest I don't want to be in it - I just want to be outside! Friday and I have a go at catching a butterfly but this one eludes me and flutters off to live another day. There is so much to see and do! Sometimes I chase Tom and Sophie, but Tom is old so is not really in to playing much, so my best play mate is Sophie. Every night when it is time for bed I don't want to come in, but we have to - everyone must be in at night. But I tell you what - as soon as that door is open first thing - I am off exploring once more - who needs breakfast when there is so much to see and do of a morning! Auntie Wizz asks me if I like being outside and to show my appreciation I give her a big head butt and a kiss on the nose - you can take that as a very big 'YES' Auntie Wizz.
This is the new me! Self assured - even a bit bossy at times, but I love life at the moment. Only one thing missing and that is my forever home. I hope that someone will come along soon and just be a little patient with me. I have made so much progress with Auntie Wizz that it would be nice to find my own home where there aren't quite so many cats and I can get a little more human attention. I'm not suitable to go with young children as they can be a bit unpredictable and I don't like that. But I am very affectionate and a real cutie! Oh no! Another dark tortoiseshell has arrived! Will someone please save me!
Becky's Story
Fri 12.10.07 - Auntie Wizz says that today someone is coming to see me - someone who may want to give me my forever home. She is coming later on this afternoon so I have all day to play and get ready for my visitor. Sure enough at 4pm she turns up. She is called Alex and Aunite Wizz and Alex sit and discuss me at great length. Auntie Wizz asks Alex if she likes spiders, and she says not a lot. Auntie Wizz tells her I am a great spider catcher as she always find a poor dead spider every morning! They discuss me at such a great length I fall asleep!
Sat 13.10.07 - Auntie Wizz says that Uncle Kelvyn will do my home check on Sunday to see if it is a safe place to live. I have to wait a bit longer to see if Alex will be my new Mum.
Sun 14.10.07 - Great news!! Auntie Wizz comes to tell me that I do indeed have a forever home - I jump about with excitement - Auntie says she will take me there tomorrow and she will come with me so I am not too frightened. One more night here and then that's it!
Mon 15.10.07 - This morning I am up early in anticipation of the big move. Auntie Wizz comes and packs my stuff up for me as I am too excited to do my own packing. We are off early on another exciting adventure. We get to Alex's house and Auntie Wizz sets up my tray and food for me. It is a bit scarey at first and I find my way in to a dark cupboard. Auntie clears it out for me and makes my bed in there . I don't stay in there too long as Auntie Wizz calls me out and I have a little explore around. After a couple of hours Auntie Wizz says she is going and will call back in a couple of days to see how I am. She warns Alex that I may hide for a while but not to worry.
Tues 16.10.07 - Tuesday morning and my new mum is busy emailing Auntie Wizz to let her know that I am doing just fine! I came out of my hidey hole at 6.30pm last night and I haven't looked back. My new mum lets me sleep with her and she does some very interesting work with bits of wire, newspaper and some sticky stuff that I dangled my tail in! She has bought me some toys and I've captured my first spider, although mum did try to save it before I got to it.
Thurs 18.10.07 - Mum says that Auntie Wizz is coming to check if I am ok. I sit at the window and wait to see if I can see her driving up the road. 'Mum!! She's here, she's here!' Mum opens the door and I run upstairs - it's my new safe place to be, because I can peep through the banisters. Then I hear Auntie Wizz's voice - 'Becky come and see Auntie Wizz' - 'Coming Auntie Wizz!' and I'm back down those stairs for a big fuss and cuddle! Mum tells Auntie Wizz that I have been really good - eaten everything, used my tray and been very loving and affectionate. She says she cannot imagine life without me already! My affections are torn now and I don't know whether to go to Auntie Wizz or my new mum! Auntie tells me that I am a good girl, and I feel very proud of myself. Auntie Wizz does not need to stay so long today as she can see I am very happy with my new mum as she plays a lot with me and sometimes I sit in her swivel chair and look out of the window. I can't go out in the garden just yet, but I can see everything that is going on. Yep - I think I'm going to like it here!
Nov 2007 Hi everyone - this is me from my new home! Just to let you know that I am really, really happy here. I'm always after my mum for a cuddle and a play and if she takes no notice of me I just purr louder and louder until she has no choice! I have met some of mum's friends - one was a particularly nice lady called Liz so I gave her an extra special large head butt and cuddled up with her all evening. Someone tried to pick me up before mum could stop them and I gave her a big hiss in the face - that seemed to do the trick! She put me down pretty sharpish - but then I let her make a fuss of me to show there were no hard feelings. But just to be on the safe side I took myself off for the rest of the day. I have a new nickname - Becky Bugzapper - well Auntie Wizz did warn mum what I was like, and not day goes past that I don't catch something! I have been outside in my new garden, as you can see. I've met a few of the local cats. I am glad to report back that there are not quite as many in this garden as there was with Auntie Wizz, and everyone here seems to be quite friendly, but I'm still finding my feet, and if I'm at all worried I just run straight back in and find my mum for another reassuring cuddle and fuss!
