Do not under estimate what it costs to look after a cat. Many now live in to their 20's and you are unlikely to go through life with your pet not requiring veterinary treatment. At some stage in their life they may require antibiotics, a dental, x-rays, blood tests etc; food, cat litter, litter tray(s), toys, scratching post(s), a bed/blanket and a proper cat carrier for when you take the cat to the vet.
Below are some basic veterinary costs - no matter what - all cats should be neutered/spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and treated for fleas and worms - these are the absolute minimum.

You may wish to consider pet insurance - but check the small print. Like most insurance there is an excess and they usually do not cover the cat for certain procedures. Some will cover illnesse for life, others just for the first year - so shop around.
