April 2011
So sorry that it has been a year since the last newsletter - but we are still here and still going! We were lucky enough to be able to rehome the last remaining 'kittens' Harry and Henry, just as work was due to start on the house. The hen house became a make shift cattery, with the cats having the larger side of the shed and the chickens having access to outdoors, only needing their sleeping compartment at night. Missy and Poppy were confined to the shed as I felt the stress of people coming and going and all the upheaval would prove too much for them as would putting them in to a cattery. Poppy because of her age and Missy due to her fear of everything that moves! Raffles and Sophie were confined during the day while the workman were here but then came back in to the house at night. Neither seemed particularly phased that every night when they came in another part of the house was 'missing' - even the floor at one stage! For anyone that has done their house up from scratch they will know where I am coming from here - and I know that the workmen would have preferred us to move out - as would we by the end of it - but I was not prepared to leave the animals and so it was that over the next few months things would gradually get worse and worse until the day came that we were left with just the toilet bowl (no cistern) and buckets/bowls for washing! You knew then that things could only get better from there on and indeed they did! The cats now have a wonderful new cat room - thanks to Sparky and Dave putting up shelves all along one wall they have a wonderful climbing wall! This room now looks out on the garden so they have plenty to occupy themselves looking out at the birds and the hens. Vinyl throughout with scattered rugs here and there means cleaning is a lot easier for all those little mishaps!
Thank you as always from all of us for your unending support. Love Wizz, Linda & Kelvyn xxx

We were fortunate to be able to rehome the boys just before work started on the house! The house was very quiet when these two went! So used were we to hearing them crashing through the cat flap every 5 minutes! Suffice to say they settled straight away in to their new home without any problems whatsoever!
Shelves cover an entire wall of the cat room making the ideal climbing wall!
I did have three little newborns in March. They were from a litter of 5. By the time they got to me 2 had died. Unfortuantely they had not been with mum for those precious first 48 hours so did not receive the colostrum from her, leaving their immune system very weak. Noodles was the first to go, losing him on the Tuesday as I got them on the Monday, followed by Nina on the Thursday. Nancy managed to hang on until the Sunday but she too became weak and I lost her that evening. They are all buried together in the garden. All at Rainbow Bridge together. Rest in peace little ones.
Fundraising
There is a slight change to our fundraising this year in as much as Crystal Peaks no longer have the Charity Stand so we will be unable to hold stalls there any longer. However, they now have the Community Desk which is situated opposite Phones4u on the Central Atrium. We can have a collecting tin on the Community Desk so we have booked several dates for that instead. The dates are on the right.
As we know times are hard for everyone so we do really appreciate your continued support.

The Rest of the Gang .........
After all the upheaval everyone is now settled and back in to our routine. With summer only just around the corner we are looking forward to some days outside basking in the warm sunshine. In the meantime we hope you enjoy the pictures of our latest little editions - 5 battery hens that we recently rescued - we did take on 6, but it proved just too much for one little soul. The hens are from the British Hen Welfare Trust and we got ours from near Wragby in Lincolnshire.
Thanks again to you all - Love Wizz xx
