Wizz Catz Rescue - Newsletter No14 - April 2008
After a very hectic start to the New Year it wasn’t long before all 10 kittens found themselves in their new homes, and calm and peace were restored once more - particularly for the old ones like Simon and Tom, who I think were beginning to get a little weary with the little ones running rings around them. We were lucky that we were able to re-home them in pairs, and the 5 kittens that were thrown from the car miraculously survived. Once again we have found wonderful homes for all our little ones. Unfortunately we heard some sad news towards the end of March: You may recall Baxter, Betty and Bibi - Baxter and Bibi were re-homed together, however little Bibi started to show breathing difficulties and it soon became apparent that her lungs were not working properly. She had obviously adapted to a reduced lung capacity, however as time went on this was getting less and less. Unfortunately there was no cure and Brent and Bev had no option but to put her to sleep. However, we can rest easy knowing that, thanks to the people who found her, and Brent and Bev’s devotion, this little one was loved and spoilt - and that is what rescue is about. We can’t always save them, but we can give them the best while they are with us.
Missy has at last started to make some progress, albeit very slowly. Having had her spayed she is now adapting to life indoors and is getting used to the everyday noises of the washing machine and vacuum cleaner. She does, however, do her turtle impression and will still hide under her bed if anyone she doesn’t know enters the kitchen but once they’ve left she returns to her bed. She loves to be tickled under her chin and loves to be massaged, but is not initiating any contact of her own free will - it’s just coming from me at the moment. It is looking unlikely at the moment that she will be re-homeable due to her acute fear of strangers, but if we can at least give her a reasonable quality of life with us, and just hope that as time goes on she learns to trust us more and more.
March saw the arrival of our first rescues for 2008 with Simba and Sonny. Their owners are emigrating to Australia in the near future and felt it wasn’t fair to put the cats through the trauma of the move. Simba will be eight this year, and Sonny is five. They have quickly settled in to ‘rescue’ life and are into our daily routine. More recently we acquired Jet and Felix. Their owner is moving and unable to take them with her. Felix is a very definite Felix. I’ll say no more! Jet is the quieter of the two but is a really sweet little cat. All four cats are very sweet natured and I’m sure it won’t be long before we find them lovely new homes.
Firstly, with many of you now keeping your cats indoors and with summer fast approaching (we hope!) we will be back to the ‘open window’ situation again! Linda and Kelvyn have two indoor cats and Kelvyn has recently fitted a ‘fly screen’ to a couple of their upstairs windows. Kelvyn is no DIY expert so if he can do it, then most of you will be able to!
